Lighthouse Beach, the Best among the Three Beaches in Kovalam

Lighthouse beach is a long sandy stretch of beach, situated along the Malabar Coast.
The beach is the largest beach out of the three beaches in Kovalam. The beach derives its name from the 35 m long lighthouse, located on the southern part of the beach. The lighthouse also acts as the main attraction of the beach. This 35 m high lighthouse is placed on top the Kurumkal Hill, which is dotted with palm trees.

After climbing about 142 steps inside the lighthouse, you will get to the observation tower, from where you will witness breath-taking views of the Beemapalli Mosque on the one side and Poovar on the other. Besides these, tourists can also enjoy adventure activities like swimming, parasailing and surfing. The tourists can also spend their leisure time at the beach while viewing the waves clashing at the shores of the beach. The very close attractions to the Lighthouse beach are the Hawa beach and the Samundra beach. The Hawa beach is ranked second to the Lighthouse beach in terms of attractions and the Samundra beach remains mostly secluded with very few tourists wondering on its sands. All three beaches have a long stretch of shallow waters which ideal for swimming and enjoying the cool waters of the sea. The sea port of Vizhinjam is another major attraction close to the Lighthouse beach, located at a distance of just 3 km. The place is famous for its diverse variety of fresh fishes and primeval temples, churches and mosques.
