SILENT VALLEY NATIONAL PARK



If you want to experience the stunning scenic beauty and rich bio- diversity then Silent Valley is definitely the place to be. It is situated on the Kundali hills
in the Western Ghats and has got rivers, mighty hills, diverse wildlife, trekking trails etc. The valley is so named as it is actually having a silent and serene atmosphere. It is also known as Sairandrivanam which in Malayalam means “Forest in valley”. This valley is known by one more name that is “Draupadi’s forest”, which is in relation to a Hindu mythological epic the Mahabharatha. The Silent Valley national park is one of the most visited parks in India although having a small area.

ATTRACTIONS IN SILENT VALLEY
The calmness of the valley is its main attraction. It is a nature lover’s ultimate destination. The trekking trails in the valley are just amazing and so the valley is best known for it in the whole of Kerela. The Silent Valley was at first not a national park, as it became a national park in the year 1984.

The National Park is rich in its bio-diversity and has got over whelming variety of species of the animals such as the Tigers, Elephants, Nilgiri Langur, Squirrels, Lion- tailed Macaques etc. However the visitors mainly come here to see the Lion- tailed Macaques as they are endangering and very less often found elsewhere. Silent Valley has a rich variety of flora as well some of which are the herbs, Orchids and medicinal plants. 

The valley also has reptiles like the King Cobra, Python, Vipers, Blue Krait and Rattle Snakes etc. And if you want to have the best wildlife experience then you should visit the valley in the early mornings and early evenings, as you can easily spot animals at this time.

And if you are an adventure freak and a trekking fan then the valley has a lot to offer you as it is very famous for its trekking trails. While on the trekking trails you got to keep few things in mind such as:

            First and foremost you need to take permission for trekking from the Forest Department of Mukkali.

     You can choose routes for the trek as per your wish and altogether you can trek for four days, which is the maximum limit of days.

      Carrying Alcohol or Polythene covers to the valley is strictly prohibited.
·       
             Do not forget to wear boots which will provide protection against the leeches, poisonous plants and reptiles.
·        
           

An early morning visit is always advisable as it is at this time that you can make the most of the place.

      You got to be calm and silent as it will help the animals to remain in an environment of their natural habitat.

The river Kunthipuzha is known to be the heart of the valley as the calmness and silence of the place interrupted by the mystic sounds of flowing water will give you a heavenly experience for sure.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:
The Silent Valley is at its best from September to March.  So, do not miss a chance to visit the Silent Valley as it will give you an experience which you can cherish all your life.
